They wouldn’t spend money checking your background if you weren’t a promising candidate for the job. The length of time can take anywhere from a day to two weeks. It all depends on how deep they go. Some companies check credit, employment references, and criminal background. Others only do a cursory investigation. GOOD LUCK!!

background check only means they’re checking your records. to make sure your not a criminal.
It means your “up for the job”. However, if they don’t like the results of the background check for some reason, you won’t be getting the job.
It means they are seriously considering you, but that doesn’t guarantee a position. It depends on how quickly the company wants to get back with you. Usually, it takes a few days.
Employers usually have to pay for pre-employment background checks and they can get them online relatively quickly. I don’t think they would do a check on you if they weren’t seriously considering you for a position.
