I think that it’s definitely important to know what kind of person you are hiring as this individual will be a reflection on you AND on the company which he/she will be representing if hired. Personal experience: small construction co., family owned. hired a local boy only to find out that he was a convicted sex offender and the prime suspect in the rape of an elderly handicapped woman. Background checks are important! As for limits, I’m not sure. There are companies out there that will do the investigations for you for a fee. They should be aware of any limitations.
